Carvin’s fantastic California Single Cut Carved Top – one of the few in-demand Carvin guitars – the CS4 is their take on the Les Paul model, complete with single cutaway body with set neck and thick maple cap. This one is in superb condition and all stock except for pickups upgraded to Suhr Thornbuckers ($240), which is a very good thing. Stock factory wiring includes push-pull tone pots so you’ll get 8 tonal possibilities with this beauty. These Suhr pickups sound so much better than the Carvin C22 humbuckers (with their 22 pole pieces per pickup!). In my demo I noted an extraordinary variety of tones, from clean to overdriven, and all sounded superb. This one is a joy to play with a slick and fast ebony fretboard, aided by the thin taper “Rapid Play” low action neck and comfortable body contours. Other features include mahogany body with full maple cap, mahogany neck with ebony fretboard and block inlays, 12″ fretboard radius, 25″ scale length (same as PRS), 1.69″ nut width, 22 medium jumbo stainless steel frets, Sperzel locking tuners, stopbar tailpiece and tuneomatic bridge. This was one of the last Carvin CS4 models and it’s now built under the Kiesel Carvin name as the CS3. It’s identical to the CS6 other than the figured neck on the 6. This is a fantastic guitar in all regards and highly recommended for anyone looking for one of the best value Les Pauls made. This is a sweet deal, especially with the Thornbuckers, at $1099. Includes top of the line G&G/Carvin case with key.
