Maxon CP101 Compressor.

Description

For a lot of players, this is the 2nd pedal you get for your pedalboard, after your favorite overdrive/boost pedal.  Compression is that critical.   It can be used to increase sustain or to limit signal peaks for a smooth, even output, or even as a radical sounding effect, adding a percussive sound.  One of the main complaints about most compressors is that it raises the noise significantly in your signal chain.  The CP101 is one of the most quiet comp’s on the market and unlike other compressors, it doesn’t alter your guitar’s attack characteristics, providing a more natural response. It’s equally at home for guitar, bass, or acoustic.  Maxon isn’t cheap stuff and these are running $171 new.  This clean used one’s a better deal at $115.
